Spatulas for Friends & Family
A Stainless Steel Spatula with a solid, flexible body and hardwood handle. Plus, a corner radius that matches that of most 10”-12” cast iron skillets.
The spatulas are based off a design I had been using and quite liked, but thought could be improved on by matching the corner radius of the spatula to that of a cast iron skillet. I also attempted to shape and work harden the stainless handle with a ball-peen hammer.
The project became a fun way to engage visiting family, and give them something to walk away with that they made (below left & right).
Spatula components and simple tools laid out in Fusion 360 (above). The table saw taper jig was 3d printed (top left) and rivet die (top right) machined from steel round bar.
2023 was a hard year for me. Death of loved ones, being diagnosed with ADHD and learning to work with the unique nature of my brain all presented challenges. As the year came to a close, making a nice everyday tool was a fulfilling gift for myself, and the friends & family that supported me along the way.
